aboutDistortion Productions was founded by Danny Kim in 2006 in Hollywood, CA.
Danny Kim is a Bay Area native, born in Palo Alto, CA. He is an active member of the Motion Picture Sound Editors Guild with over 50 feature film and tv credits such as the Sundance award-winning film, Advantageous (dir: Jennifer Phang), Scorpion King II (dir: Russell Mulcahy, Universal) and Pathfinder (dir: Marcus Nispel, Fox). As a filmmaker, Danny has conceptualized and directed music videos for artists such as classical Korean instrumentalist and composer Soo Yeon Lyuh and the internationally-renowned Kronos Quartet, Detroit DIY electro-punk band, ADULT., Filipina hip hop/world music producer Gingee, ambient producer r beny and shoegaze producer, Zaptra. In 2008, Danny directed videos for the entire concert season of Music Circle, a classical Indian music society founded in 1973 by Ravi Shankar and Harahir Rao. |
Danny has also directed several short films including the drama Decisions starring Darren LaBorie, Jon Kellam, Aubrey Dickinson and Jennifer Couch and the zany romantic comedy, The Tripping Fall starring Marvin Solomon, Aimie Billon, Roman Gupta and Rich Knight. Both films premiered on the Warner Bros. studio lot.
In 2016, Danny founded a monthly live synthesizer performance series called Binary Society in downtown San Jose. From the first event on March 24th to the season finale featuring Richard Devine on October 29th, there were a total of eight events including a two-day lineup at the SubZERO Festival for Anno Domini Gallery and a modular showcase at the Tech Museum of Innovation. Sponsors included Dave Smith Instruments, Make Noise Music, Detroit Underground, Folktek, I/O Modular Technology, Robotspeak. Event details can be found under the "Binary" section this site.
